Campaigns

Campaigns at the Union Society are run by the Welfare and campaigns committee, which we like to call WAC!. During the year the committee plans, organises and puts on many high profile campaigns. These range from awareness campaigns to national level demonstrations aiming to cover a variety of topics and issues relevant to you as students. It's important to us that you to get the most out of any of the campaigns we put on so instead of just feeding you with information this year we want to put on events and invite guest speakers to come along. We also really want your input so if there is something you would like the committee to look at or if you want to get involved then email Rosie Duffield, Student support officer, on support.union@ncl.ac.uk or Rachael Hosey, Campaigns officer, on campaigns.union@ncl.ac.uk Campaigning is all about raising awareness; the bigger the campaign the greater the impact therefore the more informed people will become. The outcome of any campaign should be change which can be anything from a change in attitude to a change in the law and that's what we aim to do here at the Union society. We want our campaigns to have a high impact and raise the awareness of you our students on current issues.

At the Union society we will be running different campaigns through out the year so keep an eye out for what's going on in The Courier or here on our web page. The types of campaings we will be running will range from awareness campaigns about topics such as sexual health and personal safety which are relevant to student life, to national level campaigns which all the Unions in the country are involved in at the same time. These are topics that are again about student issues but are more politically relevant, for example Top-up fees (check out the National Campaign page for more information).
Anyway, look out for WAC! all through the year and get involved wherever you can.
See you around
Love miniwac
